Founded in 2005 by former banker Barry Scott, Bespoke Cycling aims to be ‘the finest bike shop in the world’. Its three stores in London stock high-end cycling products from all the leading brands; the company specialises in personalised bike-fitting for clients and, as the name suggests, bespoke bike builds to meet their exact requirements.
In 2015, we were contracted to fit-out an empty concrete shell in the new Crossrail Place Mall at Canary Wharf into the company’s new flagship store. At the time, Crossrail was the largest single construction project in Europe, which made this a particularly challenging place to work. To add to the pressure, we were given just five weeks to complete the build ahead of the planned opening.
The store, which covers 5,000 square feet on Level Minus Two of the Crossrail Mall, is built around three bike-fitting studios, which also double as treatment rooms. These consist of glass-fronted cabins along the south wall: the other three walls are covered with classic cycling landscape photographs.
The main shop floor is divided into separate display areas for bikes, wheels, clothing, shoes and accessories. At the rear is a fully equipped workshop, open to view by customers.
